"Future trends in the agricultural land use as affected by climatic changes"

Workshop was joined with the 60th Anniversary of the IUNG; the gala part included many officials from Polish governmental and voivodeship administration (together with the Minister of Agriculture) as well as representatives from scientific institutions cooperating with the IUNG-PIB. The outstanding workers of the Institute were rewarded with medals for their achievements in the field of agriculture sciences. Overall, over 300 participants took part in the conference.

The scientific program of the workshop included three consecutive sessions: “Agriculture and Soil”, “Agriculture and Water Quality” and “Agriculture and Atmosphere” preceded by the information on the PROFICIENCY project presented by the project Coordinator, prof. W. Oleszek.
The first session covered issues concerning processes in soil. Lectures undertook problems of microbiology, erosion, and organic matter content in agricultural-use soil. The second session was focused on problems of water resources for agriculture and its protection against pesticide contamination. During the last session a mutual influence between plant-animal production and atmosphere was discussed. Presentations concerned the effect of climate changes on agriculture and new challenges for science in this area.
A fruitful and vivid discussions were summarized by the directors of the Institute: prof. prof. Seweryn Kukula and Stanislaw Krasowicz.
