Tobacco Workshop " Perspectives of tobacco cultivation in Poland. Methods of elimination of plant diseases and pests appearing in Poland as a result of climatic change." IUNG PIB Pulawy, 23 March 2011 organized within the PROFICIENCY project The workshop concentrated on the practical aspects of tobacco cultivation in Poland in relation to general situation and tobacco market demands.It was an model example of cooperation between the science, central administration, advisers and end users. The participants included scientists, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives of tobacco growers’ unions, contracting companies, market groups and growers. The lectures were based mainly on the achievements of the researchers from the Department of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology and regarded the problems of tobacco breeding, methods of elimination of plant diseases and pests appearing in Poland. The situation and the perspectives of tobacco cultivation in Poland were enlighten by Director of the Polish Union of Tobacco Growers - Przemysław Noworyta. The oral presentations were the base for discussion panel which enabled the participants to express their opinions and expectations. The participants expressed their appreciation for cooperation with the IUNG and their expectations in the area of the most desirable directions of tobacco breeding. The participants obtained information materials, prepared by prof. Apoloniusz Berbeć, with agricultural instructions for new tobacco cultivars bred in IUNG-PIB. |
