Training IUNG PIB Pulawy, 28-29 June 2011 organized within the PROFICIENCY project by the Department of Cereal Crop Production of the IUNG -PIB in cooperation with the West University of Technology in Szczecin Training included two plenary sessions and a poster session. Two introductory lectures summarized previous achievements in the field of spelt breeding and cultivation. Training attended 75 participants from 15 research units, that presented 11 oral and 16 posters presentations. The discussions led to the conclusions that spelt adapts well to climate change and is relatively resistant to stress conditions such as water deficiency and high temperatures, which indicates on the necessity of the intensification of the research on the new varieties more adapted to Polish agroclimate conditions. Generally, spelt can be utilize as a wheat for organic farms and as cereal in integrated or medium-input cultivations; both systems demanding different production technologies. Further research are needed, particularly on the second, more promising production system.
