" Dispersion of pollutants from agriculture to environment"

The workshop was focused on the problem of water and soil pollution by agriculture, as the effect of increased consumption of fertilizers, herbicides and synthetic chemical pesticides.  The workshop gathered over 70 participants from Polish research institutions as well  agricultural advisory services.

The programme included oral and poster presentations and concentrated on two leading topics: -   emission of biogenic substances from agricultural sources and its effect on water quality, - effect of pesticides on soil environment quality.
Within the first session the monitoring system of shallow groundwaters and the surface waters in Poland  were discussed. The monitoring of groundwater is executed jointly by the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation in Puławy and National Agrochemical Station with the financial support of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The status of surface waters is assessed under the State Environmental Monitoring Programme based on data from the three types of monitoring: surveillance monitoring, operational monitoring and investigative one. The second session embraced information on the concentrations of  residues of  chloroorganic pesticides in Polish agricultural soils,   contemporary state of herbicide application and the methods for evaluation of the ecological risk related to contamination of soils with pesticides. The model of designation of areas particularly vulnerable to pollutions from agriculture, developed by IUNG-PIB  was presented.
